The cretinous slime that is the
President of the United States repeatedly told the American people
that he would release his taxes after “the audit”. (If said audit
actually exists – he has shown none of the requested documentation
as evidence that the audit is real.) That was during the campaign.
Then he announced through his spokesperson that since he won the
election, he figures the public has said they don't want to see his
taxes, so he won't release them.
He has repeatedly, inappropriately and
inaccurately bragged about the size of his crowds, his hands, and his
“victory”. He has managed to be rude to multiple friendly
national leaders, create a public feud with and get punked by the
Mexican president, and have a private tantrum with the Prime Minister
of Australia. He has signed, with great fanfare, a number of
Executive Orders, but has a slim to nonexistent legislative agenda.
His reaction to a Federal Court judge blocking his EO was to
refer to him as a “so-called” judge. Maybe having the FBI locate
the judge's birth certificate?
At this point I think we have moved
beyond hoping that he would be guided by cooler heads who understood
a bit about governance. We have a clown car. Did I mention that he
used the National Prayer Breakfast to taunt a former Republican
governor and get publicity for the TV show of which he is STILL the
Executive Producer? Or that he stopped the Inaugural Parade to walk
in front of his hotel and get all those nice, live shots. If nobody
literally puts cash in his hand at an official function, he seems to
feel, it's all good.
So, this guy will continue to degrade
the office with affronts to its dignity. To use the office to extend
his branding business. To whip up the anger of the disenfranchised,
directing them as to who ought be “Locked Up!”. To refer to a
federal judge as a “so-called” judge. To blame any future
problems on the courts.
Our allies will be dismayed and our
enemies will either exploit the weakness or be eliminated in a random
enforcement of some expectation Trmp has. I think Trmp would feel
bad about it, but if they get in his way, and there is no one to stop
him, who knows? Nixon played the Madman card – Trmp has lived it.
So, what do we do? Organize, of
course, and so far that seems to be happening. March and
demonstrate? Of course, but as a means to an achievable end as a
part of a meaningful strategy. And for fun. Write stuff on Facebook?
Hell yeah – do what you need to blow off steam. Vote? Work on
that timing issue...
So I don't know. Someone will figure
it out, but it is not me, not now. Senator Warren silenced reading a
Coretta Scott King letter. Several male senators read the same
letter with no push-back. Really? It seems to me that if an attempt
to create more reasonable dialogue and find a way to work (if not
agree) with each other will succeed, it will not come from the
leadership or from Ted Cruz. It is possible to do this - we've done it for
years. Whoever figures out how to respond to this craziness
effectively, non-violently, and cost-effectively – who can create a
space where people can differ in the public spaces while granting
each other the dignity due a person in the world – that person will
get my support.
So step up.
